Welcome to our little world. I hope what is written below will give you some idea of who we are and what we do but if you have any questions please feel free to email us.
We established Hasslefree Miniatures with Kev as a sole trader back in early 2004 when our youngest daughter Megan was only 5 months old. ‘Kev’ is Kevin James White, my husband and an established sculptor of over 20 years within the miniatures industry. What you can see now is the result of Kevs love for sculpting and my OCD for organising things. I am Sally, Kevs wife and as well as being known online as ‘Mrs H’ and ‘Libertee’. I am mother to our 4 very active children and also the voice of reason when Kev goes off on a sculpting tangent!
Our main office is in Ripley, Derbyshire which is where Kev and Mark work. We use contract white metal and resin casters to support our ranges.
What you see now is the culmination of a lot of hard work not just by us over the years but also from the many friends who have supported us and helped us. Our first presence online was down to Inge Jensen (Jenova) who hosted us on her site for a year until Tony Stapells (www.Stapells.com) built our first proper site, and now we have this one which we hope will help us to move to the next level and help Kev to spend more time sculpting and allow me to spend more time recuperating.
New features are due to be added over the next 6 months (as we can afford them) and we welcome any suggestions as to ways we can improve your browsing experience.
We primarily manufacture 28mm scale fantasy and sci-fi figures. We work to a ‘true’ 28mm scale and not a ‘heroic’ scale which means that approximately a 5'10" tall man would be 28mm to his eye level. We supply castings in both white metal and resin.
Our figures are very detailed and suitable for painting, collecting and RPG's. Although at this present time we don‘t have the resources to commit to a new game system, many of our figures are successfully integrated into the various rulesets and games that are currently on the market.
We have quite a simple philosophy and that is to provide fast and efficient service (sometimes even with a smile!). I am quite old fashioned and feel that there is nothing wrong with courtesy and remembering that it is the customer that is important. Basically our customers enable Kev to have fun making toy soldiers and working for himself has made him happier than he has been in years, although even he will admit that working for yourself isn’t all it is cracked up to be! Over the years (excluding the odd blip, after all you honestly can’t please everybody) our customer service record has proven to be consistently one of the best in the industry.
Don’t let the fantastically glossy website and the huge (and still growing ranges) fool you into thinking we are a large manufacturer, we aren’t! Family restrictions mean we run HF mainly part-time fitting it in as much as we can around the needs of the children and my illness, this means that the office is currently only open on a Monday, Thursday and Friday which is when our part-time staff are in so if you email out of that time please be patient for an answer, we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Although our office is only staffed part-time, email accounts are monitored daily (Monday through Friday) and we aim to answer all mail as speedily as possible, however sometimes things happen beyond our control so if you are waiting for a response after 24 hours please feel free to re-send your email, the internet isn’t always as infallible as we are commonly led to believe.
Our office/workshop premises are based at 19, Moseley Street, Ripley, Derbshire. DE5 3DA.
Telephone number: +44 (0) 1773 742768
We do not operate a walk-in shop and are set up for just ‘popping in’. If you are in the area and want to collect something to save postage them please telephone us prior to turning up.
Although Kev does still do some freelance work, primarily our main form of income and support for our 4 kids comes from HF. He is able to make what he wants (within reason of course…) how he wants to make it and not worry about trying to fill someone elses design brief, this makes him happy. The joy of watching his face when he shows me new models (think small child with a Lego creation at a playgroup and you get the idea!) makes every late night and long day worth it.
As much as we love HF and what it has grown into, we have tried to make it the best we can as it is our only means to support our family of four rapidly growing children and (thanks to the UK interest rates) our ever-expanding mortgage! As we believe you have the right to the best service possible we also believe we have the right to make a profit in order to provide for our family.
